Patches Man

Around our apartment building there are several stray cats. Here is a picture of one I call Patches Man. (Sorry about the bad quality of the picture, it was taken late at night without a flash.) I have a soft spot for PM. I don't really know why. He is very wild and runs away when I try to approach him. He also gets into fights with Bubbles! I've been putting out food for him, but without much success. Many people walk their dogs in the field behind out apartment where PM lives and if they don't get to the food, the ants does. I'm a little worried about him, because it looks like they are going to build on, at least part of the open field where her lives.

We are approaching our 5,000 th visitor! Yey! If you are visitor number 5,000 please let me know, because there might be a little something comming your way.

UPDATE: To see what number visitor you are, look at the Site Meter on the left, above the "I love the 2 Bs Competition" logo.

Momma says that's sort of how she got Georgia, although Georgia wasn't that shy. She learned that people would feed her. However, they took away her field too and that's one reason she came to live with Momma

Patches is very cute! I hope he's okay. I saw a little orange cat at the train station yesterday and that was a little alarming. -Juli

Do you have any feral cat clinics in your area? If you are unsure, check out the Alley Cat Allies website: http://www.alleycat.org/.
I have found in my 18 years of helping strays, that the majority of them are lost pets who are just so scared. Once trapped and neutered and confined, they become extremely lovey and grateful. Only a handful have been actual ferals. And even the ferals with the proper setup can be tamed. (At least this has been my experience). If you want to discuss any options (I'm not sure of how much experience you may or may not have in this area), feel free to email me.
Peace,

If you put a little Vaseline petroleum jelly around the base of the bowl, it will keep the ants out of the food. The bad news is it is easy to make a mess if you forget you've done that :)

Also, a year or two ago I came across a bowl with a base that claimed ants couldn't cross. I no longer remember where I saw it, but I suspect a couple minutes with Google or Ask Jeeves could find it for you.

Just in case you are interested...
